Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen has fired a salvo at opposition chief Raila Odinga chiding him for allegedly calling President Uhuru Kenyatta a “mchawi” (witch).
In a tweet on Tuesday, Murkomen hit out at Raila saying that he is practising “political conmanship” for preaching peach and later insulting Uhuru.
The Elgeyo Marakwet Senator noted that in the spirit of his March 9 handshake with Uhuru, Raila should not be issuing such statements.
"It’s political conmanship to preach handshake & the same time call the President mchawi (witch)," Murkomen stated.
Raila while speaking on Monday during the opening of Katani hospital in Machakos County revisited the contentious August 8, 2017 polls.
He said that NASA contested the polls and succeeded in having it nullified but, set conditions under which they would have participated in the October 26, 2017 repeat polls.
However, this did not happen and he boycotted the elections leaving Jubilee’s presidential candidate – Uhuru Kenyatta - to fly the flag alone.
"Tukasema hiyo kiwanja ifagiliwe sawa kabla hatujarudi. Walipokataa, tukasusia wakasema waende pekee yao…Kama wewe unakimbia peke yako kama mchawi usiku, umeshinda nani?” asked Raila.
It loosely translates to in English: “We said the ground must be swept well before coming back. When they refused, we boycotted and they said they will go it alone…If you are running alone like a witch at night, who did you defeat?”
NASA boycotted the repeat presidential polls citing that they lacked faith in IEBC.
Raila and his co-principals Musalia Mudavadi, Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetangula said they would only participate in the repeat polls if IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati and CEO Ezra Chiloba and his team left office.
