Nine Nakuru MPs skipped a visit by Deputy President William Ruto in Naivasha.

Only three MPs from Nakuru County, Njoro’s Charity Kathambi, Naivasha’s Jane Kihara and Gilgil’s Martha Wangari, attended the visit at Joy Celebration centre.

It is not yet clear why the rest of the MPs kept off the function despite indications that an earlier communication had been done about the visit.

Despite Ruto earlier attending a church service at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church Ridgeways, Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui was pitching tent at the Joy Celebration Centre waiting for the DP – a clear hint that there was communication Ruto was visiting.

Interestingly, despite the Nakuru MPs being missing-in-action (MIA), the DP was accompanied by more than 40 MPs largely from the Mt Kenya region.

Among those who accompanied Ruto is Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu.

He said that the handshake was a scheme to cool things and enable Ruto to plan for the 2022 presidency.

Another interesting angle to the Nakuru MPs saga is that all those who missed the function were male MPs while those who attended were all female MPs.

Even Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri, who has been dubbed Ruto’s attack dog after he launched a bare-knuckle attack against President Uhuru Kenyatta, did not show up at the meeting.
