Former Economic Planning Minister Henry Obwocha survived with one kidney for 18 years before his Saturday's death, the family has revealed.
Obwocha, despite his stature in the society, underwent Kidney Transplant at Kenyatta Hospital Private Wing in 1999 after a relative came into his rscue.
Throughout his life, it has also emerged, Obwocha was largely a vegetarian and strictly observed the diet for his entire 69 years on earth.
Further, he avoided sugar and loved brown Porridge which he would access at Kahawa Restaurant along Kaunda Street in Nairobi.
"He was able to take care of his health; his strict diet of brown Ugali and vegetables, he loved brown porridge and ripe bananas and tea without sugar.
"He has managed the condition for the past 18 years. He used to wake up in the morning and other than the diet and medicine, he jogged a lot," said Kang'ina Obwocha, his daughter.
During the advent of multiparty democracy, Obwocha became the first MP to be elected on a major opposition party in Gusii, Ford Kenya, even as George Anyona carried the day in his Kitutu Masaba on KSC.
For 15 years, Obwocha served as MP Wes Mugirango until 2007 when he lost to James Gesami of ODM.
