The fight against graft and subsequent quest for lifestyle audit created anxiety within the ruling party with Ruto's allies crying foul of witch-hunt.

"It is not genuine. It met the DP by surprise and there are individuals within the office of the president determined to lock him out of 2022," said Kipchumba Murkomen.

And with the simmering tension, Uhuru cancelled the trip and is said to have held 5 hours meeting at State House with Ruto on Friday.

While the details of the meeting remain scanty, it is believed to have been planned by State House Comptroller Kinuthia Mbugua who is said to have been concerned with the tensions.

"They were alone in the meeting and discussed Jubilee matters. In fact, the president cancelled his trip solely because of the cracks in the party," a source said.

There were reports last week that a section of Ruto's allies had registered two political parties in preparation for mass exit from Jubilee.

Also, a report by London based organisation intimated that Uhuru's camp is keen to have Ruto impeached after the lifestyle audit.
