Two men have been lynched beyond recognition in Kitui County.
The duo was lynched at Kangweni Market in Maluma, Kitui Sub County on Monday morning.
The mob descended on the two after they were caught red handed trying to break into a shop.
A watchman at the market who confided to this writer for fear of victimization said he was the one who discovered the culprits trying to break into the shop.
"I could hear the men murmuring and the metallic door bagging. I alerted my friends and we went to see what was happening," he explained.
They found the two men trying to cut the security locks with a hacksaw.
"They had dangerous weapons like pangas and knives but we warned them if they make a mistake of running we will throw arrows at them," another security man told this writer.
They blew whistles and screamed, alerting the neighbors who tied them with ropes, poured petrol on them and lynched them.
Nzambani police boss Simon Darso confirmed the incident.
"I have received the reports about the two men who where trying to break into a shop but their efforts where cut short by irate residents," Darso said.
He however, he warned the residents against taking the law into their own hands and report criminals to police instead.
The bodies were removed to Kitui Level Five Hospital's mortuary.
