Kenyans of all walks of life continue to react in various measures after High Court Judge Jessie Lessit granted Migori Governor Zachary Okoth Obado Sh5 million bail.
The Governor and his aides Michael Oyamo and Caspal Obiero denied charges of murdering Sharon Otieno, and her seven-month unborn baby last month.
Kisumu’s Kondele Member of the County Assembly (MCA) Joachim Oketch Swagga said that like any other suspect, the Governor has the right to be granted bail.
“It is his right. The Constitution grants everyone the right to bail. It is a good thing because he was elected by Migori residents. They need him at the County to serve them,” Swagga said in an exclusive interview.
Article 49, section 1 (h) of the constitution says an arrested person has the right to be released on bond or bail, on reasonable conditions, pending a charge or trial, unless there are compelling reasons not to be released.
The governor’s release on bail was accompanied by a host of conditions, among them depositing all his travelling documents in court.
However, Obado’s aides Oyamo and Obiero were not lucky enough as they were denied bail.
The case against the three will be heard between May 6, 2019 and May 17, 2019.
