In a tweet Friday, the former presidential candidate in the 2017 polls argued that the kitty has been scraped off by the current constitution thereby, rendering it unconstitutional.

He has termed the continued allocation of the funds as a scheme by the MPs to engage in a spending spree and wants those found spending it held accountable.

According to Aukot who participated in the process of making the 2010 constitution, those found spending the illegally should be surcharged, arguing that its functions are now under the devolved units.

"CDF, as it is now, is unconstitutional. It's just a spending spree for MPs. All CDF functions are now functions of the County govt. Any more CDF allocations is illegal and those spending CDF money should be personally surcharged," he wrote.

Aukot and his team are at the same time pushing for constitutional changes to among others, scale down on elected leaders to save the taxpayer from the current huge wage bill.

The push dubbed 'Punguza Mizigo' seeks to have two MPs; a female and a male elected per county, in a bid to promote gender equality.
