The building was targeted as part of an exercise aimed at removing structures erected on road reserves.

Authorities involved in the exercise say that ownership is not a factor in it.

On Tuesday, several buildings reported to have been erected in road reserves were brought down in a popular demolition exercise aimed at reclaiming public lands registered under the names of private developers. 

In an exercise that attracted big crowds of onlookers, the officials involved stated that they will continue until all structures in road reserves are fully recovered. 

Just weeks ago, buildings along the Kismayu road were brought down with business owners left counting big losses. 

Garissa County now becomes the second after Nairobi to bring down all illegal structures with Taj Mall being the most recent.

Governor Korane had in the past few months revealed that he would be spearheading the demolition of all structures illegally erected.
