Kakamega Senator Cleopa Malala has once again hit out at Sports and Heritage Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa over his (Echesa) recent allegations about him.
Speaking on Radio Jambo on Wednesday morning, Malala took issue with the CS for reportedly accusing him of benefiting from Deputy President William Ruto’s financial generosity in a recent radio interview.
He laughed off Echesa’s allegations that Ruto funded the construction of his house in Milimani Estate in Kakamega to a tune of over 5 million shillings, adding that his house is worth more than that.
‘’Waziri aliteleza ulimi maana nyumba ninayoishi si ya milioni tano ama sita alivyosema, nyumba yangu ni ya zaidi ya shilingi milioni arubaini na haikujengwa na Ruto (he made a mistake as the house is worth more than 40 million shillings),’’ he said.
He further poked holes into Echesa’s allegations that he personally took the Senator to Ruto to seek the funds, wondering how he could facilitate the construction of his (Malala) house yet he is yet to acquire his own.
According to Malala, Echesa lacks a house back at home and has sought refuge in a poor structure in Shibale Market.
‘’Iweje anasema alinipeleka nipewe pesa za ujenzi na yeye mwenyewe hajapewa? Yeye anaishi nyuma ya maduka pale Shibale Market.
(it is laughable that he claims to have escorted me to seek the funds, yet he himself has no house and is living behind shops in Shibale market),’’ added the lawmaker.
The two have not been in good terms lately, a situation apparently emanating from their varying political affiliations, with Malala remaining solidly behind opposition leader Raila Odinga.
