Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Fred Matiang’i has said that the national government will deploy more security personal to hunt down and tame Al-Shabaab militants in Garissa and the larger North Eastern region.

The CS said that the government is keen on taming attacks by the Al-Shabaab militants.

Matiang’i said that he has received concerns from Garissa and North Eastern leaders over state of security in the region and that action is being taken.

“We are keen on one ensuring safety of North Eastern residents and all Kenyans and we will continue to deploy more security to areas with security threats,” the CS said on Monday.

Matiang’i asked North Eastern locals and Kenyans to remain vigilant and report suspicious people to authorities.

Last week, a section of Garissa politicians led by Senator Yusuf Haji pleaded with the government to boost security in the region.

The leaders claimed that suspected Al-Shabaab militants are allegedly penetrating the region with aim of staging attacks.

Two people were killed a week ago along the Garissa Ijara road by suspected militants who ambushed the bus they were traveling in.

The militants allegedly separated the passengers basing on their religion and executed the two said to be no-Muslims.

Garissa and other parts of Northern Kenya has been prone to terror related attacks.
