Local leaders drawn from the various wards of Garissa county have cried foul over the manner and circumstances that led to the popular arrest of Governor Ali Korane on Tuesday morning.
The politicians said the move by the DCI is a witch hunt and called for more tolerance from the media.
Led by Mohamed Gabow who is the MCA Iftin ward and Ijara MCA Irshad Hilowle, the local leaders criticised local media houses and a section of politicians in from the county for painting a false impression on the matter, thus drawing it to almost out of hand in the early morning arrest.
Speaking to the media in Garissa Town in the afternoon, the duo called on the residence to have calm over the emerging developments in the county, stating that the governor had just gone to record statements with the DCI on what he knew concerning the high profile shooting of former CEC Idris Muktar called for calm over developments yesterday in which the Governor went to record a statement in Nairobi DCI over the recent shooting of former Finance CEC Idris Adan Muktar.
"Ali Korane does not have any political differences with the former CEC Idris Adan Muktar. His willingness and decision to write a statement before officers drawn from DCI at the Kilimani police station should not be misinterpreted that he was directly involved in the shooting incident, " the duo said in a charged statement.
However, the leaders who are the governor's close associates noted the ex-finance CEC had sued the former Nathif Jama's administration over what he termed as wrongful dismissal.
