A primary school teacher is currently fighting for his life at Kisii Teaching and Referral hospital after he allegedly consumed poison.
Mark Ongoro a teacher Ikuruma primary school in Marani sub-county, Kisii County drunk poison after his colleagues asked him to produce the money he was given to issue to pupils who represented the school in sports competition.
Daniel Ayieko Ikuruma assistant chief confirmed the incident.
"The teacher after squandering the money buying alcohol in a local bar he opted to drink poison after other teachers demanded Sh6,000 which he was given to give to pupils who represented the school in sports competition," said the chief.
The administrator said the teacher on Monday left the school pretending he was going to bring the money only for him to end up attempting suicide on Tuesday morning.
"Ongoro woke up on Tuesday morning instead of going to school he picked a bottle full of poison and drunk before telling his wife. The wife screamed for help from neighbours," he stated.
Mr Ayieko noted that the victim was immediately rushed to Kisii Referral hospital where he is being treated.
He noted that the teacher is out of danger.
