Kambas used to eat natural foods in the olden days, this made them strong and healthy.
Nowadays, most Kamba's, especially the young ones, take junk foods like chips.
These expose them to ill health including heart diseases and cancer.
The secret behind their ancestors living longer than even 100 years is that they ate natural foods which included:
1. Boiled green maize
Called 'misakwa' in the local dialect.
They used to boil green maize for either lunch or supper or breakfast.
Very nutritious in starch and no fat.
2. Boiled cassava
Called 'manga' in Kamba language.
They used to take this any time of the day.
Rich in starch too.
3. A mixture of millet and milk
This is called 'kínaa' in Kamba language.
This was very nutritious also.
A source of proteins and energy.
4. Sweet potatoes
Called 'makwasi'.
They were either boiled or roasted.
They could take them any time of the day.
5. Sorghum
They used to cook porridge or ugali.
Very nutritious.
Used as source energy.
These foods did not involve much salt and fat.
If they had to use fat, they would harvest it from animals (Makathimo) or from milk.
So, no much cholesterol or additives.
Others foods included sour milk, green maize porridge (íkie), green vegetables etc.
If today's men could eat such food and avoid junk, they will stay healthy for long.
