A year after he administered the presidential oath to opposition leader Raila Odinga, Ruaraka lawmaker Tom Kajwang' has reccaled the events of January 30, 2017.

Kajwang' now says that the former Premier was strong and ready for the event, at a time when many expected him to shelve his coronation plans.

This was despite warnings from the government that the same would amount to treason which is punishable by death.

But Kajwang' now maintains that Raila was in high spirit in the event that was held in Nairobi's Uhuru Park.

In an interview with Thursday Standard, he said that though there were policemen at the scene initially, they faded away and let the function have its course with time.

"Somewhere along the line, policemen just disappeared and let the crowd take control. It was hectic," he said.

The lawmaker added that the place was so crowded, possibly forcing out the policemen who were most likely there to thwart the function.

He added that he decided to take the bull by the horns despite the nervousness of what would happen afterward.

"This thing needed balls and balls shrank that day,” he added.

Clad in full courtroom attire, Kajwang' went ahead to administer the oath alongside Raila's former aide and Lawyer Miguna Miguna.

Just like he had anticipated, he was arrested by flying squad officers the next day and until now has an ongoing treason case which seems to have been slowed down by the March 9 truce between Raila and Uhuru.

Miguna was later exiled to Canada in what the state termed a citizenship row.

The event was snubbed by Raila's co-principals and party leaders of opposition's National Super Alliance (NASA) member parties Musalia Mudavadi (ANC), Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper) and Moses Wetangula (Ford Kenya)
