Igembe South Member of Parliament John Paul Mwirigi has been charged with obstruction and assisting a prisoner to flee.
Mwirigi was charged on Tuesday following his Monday evening arrest. He is accused of inciting Probox and bodaboda riders to reject the current traffic crackdown.
The lawmaker who is the youngest to be elected pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
According to his lawyer, Ken Muriuki, the accused should be freed on bond on the grounds that the charges and the offences are minor.
In a counter-argument, the prosecution stated that the MP might interfere with the investigation due to his position.
The prosecution, however, argued that there is public unrest and that he may interfere with investigations.
