Mr Edward Ondigi, the Chief Finance officer, was reportedly arrested by detectives for allegedly assaulting his colleague but he has since dismissed the claims as 'untrue'.

Correspondences between him and a senior editor who did not wish to be mentioned, shows the officer disputing his arrest, blaming senior government officers for maliciously implicating his name.

"I saw some publication on Monday that I was arrested. You would have consulted me on that. I was not arrested and that is just a propaganda by certain people who want to bring me down.

"For me, I just know it's malicious. It seems it's their propaganda which failed to materialise. I am safe and haven't received any summonses," says Ondigi in one of the messages.

No police records in a quick check at Nyamira Police Station that shows he was arrested or charged. Officers at the desk denied handling such a case on Monday.

Mr Ondigi is at centre of controversy with certain government officials blaming him for freezing of their April salaries, in which over 1,000 people missed.

However, the exercise was authorised by Governor John Nyagarama, who vowed to crack a whip on people believed to have been employed unprocedurally.
