Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has told off Murang'a governor Mwangi wa Iria and maintained that the Ndakaini dam belongs to the Nairobi county government.
Sonko says that the county owns the dam and has documents to prove ownership. In a live Facebook post on Thursday Sonko said, “Tuheshimiane, lakini sina shida na Wa Iria (Governor). Sisi hatukunywi maji ya Murang’a.” Sonko’s statement translates to, “Let’s respect each other. I don’t have a personal problem with Wa Iria. Nairobi does not get water from Murang’a.)
He added that his government has compensated people living near the dam and that it (the dam) is under Nairobi county government.
Governor Wa Iria has demanded 25% revenue from Nairobi and Kiambu counties for water supplied from the Ndakaini dam.The governor has vowed to shut down supply of water to Nairobi and Kiambu if the two counties fail to pay for the water.President Uhuru Kenyatta has since cautioned the two governors against debating about water.#hivisasaoriginal
