The second term governor wants Raila to exit active politics and serve as an elder who will be giving direction to younger leaders.

Some of the reasons the governor wants Raila to exit the political arena could be:

1) He is afraid Raila can bring confusion in the Jubilee party

Being one of the DP’s confidants, Mandago is aware of the ability of Raila to create political unions. And such, a union between Raila and Uhuru can be a huge blow to the DP’s camp ahead of their 2022 presidential ambitions.

2) He thinks Raila is too old to bring any new ideas on board

The governor has been quoted several times saying that Raila has been in politics more than enough and it is high time he paves way for younger and brilliant ideas.

He wants Raila to step down from politics and act as a chief advisor or political elder. The governor holds the notion that Raila has the experience to mentor more young politicians to step in his shoes.

Also, the governor believes Kenyans have been so used to seeing the name Raila Odinga on presidential ballot papers and it is high time Raila endorses someone else.

3) He believes Raila can capitalize on the handshake to push for a referendum which will create more government positions at the expense of the taxpayer.

This is something that the DP’s camp cannot allow at all costs. This is because it is contrary to the DP’s political strategy of succeeding President Uhuru.
