In a live interview on Citizen TV on Tuesday night, Duale proposed a parliamentary system noting it is better for the country.

The Garissa legislator said that if there is going to be a referendum, Kenyans should push for a parliamentary system governance.

However, Kuria says that Mt Kenya leaders will reject any proposal for a parliamentary system.

The vocal Gatundu South lawmaker notes that it is better to stay with the presidential system.

“I admire by boss and Majority Leader Aden Duale. He is anything but a fool. What is he saying on citizen TV? If you want any constitutional change it means a parliamentary system with a Prime Minister who heads Government elected by MPs in the toilets of parliament who suffer from historical injustices when it comes to the numbers of constituencies visa a vis population. Of course we will never support that especially those of us from the central Kenya,” Kuria posted on Facebook.

Kuria added, “We would rather stick with the status quo or pure presidential system.”

A majority of politicians across the political divide are pushing for a referendum.

The change in the country’s governance structure is one of the areas being discussed by the Building Bridges Committee.

The committee co-chaired by Garissa Senator Yusuf  Haji and Amos Wako came into existence after the famous handshake between president Uhuru Kenyatta  and opposition leader Raila Odinga.
