Renowned lawyer and socio-political commentator Steve Ogolla has waded into the debate on whether President Uhuru Kenyatta can go back to office after 2022.
In a tweet on Friday, the lawyer minced no words, arguing that the Head of state has to go home as envisaged by the Kenyan constitution, which is the country's supreme law.
He dismissed those rooting for Uhuru to play a role in next government as terribly mistaken.
"The argument that President Kenyatta can be recycled is terribly mistaken, fundamentally flawed, and constitutionally offensive. Uhuru finishes his term and goes home. There can be no legal maneuver that may get President Kenyatta back to public office, not even as nominated MCA," the lawyer opined.
A section of politicians have held the view that the Head of State is too young to disappear from the political scene.
The president is in his second and final term and cannot seek reelection, unless there is a constitutional amendment backed by a majority of the Kenyan people.
There has been talk of reintroducing the post of Prime Minister so as to accommodate him in the formation of the next government.
Among those who have been vocal about President Kenyatta playing a role in the next government is the secretary general of the Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU).
