Speaking on Monday, Kihalangwa noted that due to long queues witnessed at immigration offices, the agency will only be accepting application for persons with proof of travel.

"Beginning from tomorrow (Tuesday) those in the specified categories should ensure they come with supporting documents for them to be served.

“If u ask a good number of people applying for the new passport, (a good number) of them have no desire of travelling to any place. For that matter this congestion is undesirable. We do not expect people who come and apply for passports for fun, because we will not issue them," he said as quoted by Standard.

In a tweet on Tuesday, Mwangi noted that Kihalangwa has no authority to decide who applies for a passport.

"Mr. @GKihalangwa @ImmigrationDept you have zero powers to decide who applies or doesn't apply for a passport. Hii serikali ina matharao sana," he said.
