The bone of contention was the lifestyle audit that had been proposed by the president in a bid to weed out corruption.

According to Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei, the audit was aimed at frustrating the 2022 presidential ambitions of William Ruto.

Nyeri Town MP, Ngunjiri Wambugu disagreed with Cherargei's contention, maintaining that there was no sinister motive behind the lifestyle audit other than weeding out corruption.

Cherargei accused Wambugu of representing faceless people to fight the deputy president.

''I know he represents some faceless people who are working behind the scenes to frustrate the agenda of the succession.. I wish that the faceless people that he's representing,'' Cherargei said.

''The people I representing in Nyeri are not faceless,'' MP Wambugu fired back.

The exchange add another layer of complexity to the fallout of the lifestyle audit.
