The county boss who was among several political leaders who attended the sugar stakeholders meeting at the Grand Royal Swiss Hotel in Kisumu, led by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Festus Mwangi Kiunjuri was praised by residents.

This was after the meeting when the Migori County Chief’s motorcade snaked past Kondele on his way to Kisumu Town.

Residents who turned out in large numbers demanded that he spares a moment to address them, shouting out praise names in their Luo language.

“Obado! Obado! Obado!” residents were heard chanting. However, the governor did not address the residents. He was seen atop of one of his vehicles, waving at the residents as the motorcade spade off.

The county chief was lately ranked the most performing governor in Luo Nyanza in a survey conducted by the Consortium of Researchers Organization on governance.

Governor Obado was ranked 1st in Luo Nyanza and 8th nationally after garnering 73% rating, ahead of Kisumu County Governor Professor Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o who got 69% approval rating.

Governor Nyong’o is ranked 12th nationally.

Homabay Governor Cyprian Otieno Awiti was ranked 3rd in Luo Nyanza and 44th nationally with 36% rating, while Siaya’s Rasanga is the last in Luo Nyanza and 46th nationally with 33%.

Also during nurses strike, his county was among the few that were not affected by the impact since he had settled scores with the nurses and were on duty.

On the flip side, he is branded as the most controversial leader from the region, having opposed George Ochilo Ayacko’s candidature for the Migori County senatorial seat, despite having been endorsed by none other than ODM leader Raila Odinga.

Here is a clip of the scene.
