Addressing the media at Yathui on Wednesday, Mutinda said that the dams were swept away by heavy rains last year, adding that locals have to walk for long to find the scarce commodity.

He said that the county should send excavators to desilt the dams in preparation for the next rainy season.

"The next rain is in November. The drought has taken a toll on our people, water sources have grown scarce as residents are now forced to walk for long distances to find water," said Mutinda.

He noted that the county government did well rehabilitating Wamunyu-Yathui water project which will benefit residents once the rehabilitation is over.

Residents in Wamunyu town, Kisinzili and Yathui villages now have a reason to smile as the project which had stalled for three years is now operational.

He said that the water is being pumped to reach other areas.
