A calf with human-like facial features that was born in Lessos village last week died on Thursday afternoon.
The calf which experienced an extremely terrible death was about one week old.
According to John Kiprop who is the owner of the cow, the calf had not eaten or sucked milked from its mother since it was born, and one could tell it was always in pain.
"It was just lying at the same place ever since it was born. It could neither move nor make a sound. Yesterday when we went to check on it as usual, we found it dead," Kiprop explained.
Though the tragedy was expected, it left many especially the family of Kiprop in a sombre mood.
The fact that the calf had managed to survive for a whole week and was almost giving signs of improvement had given Kiprop and his family a ray of hope.
"On Wednesday, just a day before it died the calf had begun making an effort of standing up though it was extremely weak. Earlier on we had intended to sell its mother but my wife convinced me not to sell it with the hope that the calf might survive," Kiprop stated.
Most of the villagers who had witnessed the birth and death of the calf, advised Kiprop to sell the cow as it might be a sign of bad luck.
"This cow is only bringing him one loss after another. The first calf died, the second one has also died. So the cow is actually not reproductive and therefore he should sell it," James Kimutai, a neighbor, advised.
Kiprop had however made up his mind not to sell the cow but to slaughter it and take the meat to his butchery at Lessos market center as he said that would be more profitable.
