Mavoko Constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Patrick Makau now wants Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua to drop his presidential ambition in support of Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
Makau argues that governor Mutua will spoil for Kalonzo if he insists on vying for presidency in the coming 2022 general election.
Speaking during the burial of uncle to Makueni MP Daniel Maanzo at Yekanga in Makueni on Saturday, the Mavoko legislator said that Kalonzo stands a higher chance of winning the presidency in 2022 than governor Mutua.
He noted that Kalonzo's popularity, political experience and networks makes him a better choice for presidency in 2022 election.
“Our friend Governor Alfred Mutua should drop his presidential ambition and support Kalonzo so that we can speak in one voice as the Kamba community in 2022,” he said.
Makau asked Kenyans to unite behind Kalonzo’s presidential bid, saying he is a visionary leader who can transform the country.
He said that Kalonzo is the only ‘cleanest;’ leader among politicians who have so far declared interest to contest the presidency in 2022.
Makau observed that Kalonzo’s integrity cannot be questioned, adding that the Wiper leader will viciously lead the war against graft if he is elected in 2022.
The Mavoko lawmaker at the same time urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to endorse Kalonzo as his successor in 2022.
He said that as Kamba leaders they will approach President Kenyatta to support Kalonzo in 2022 general election.
Governor Mutua has ruled out shelving his ambition for anyone else in the 2022 presidential election.
The Maendeleo Chap Chap governor says his name will be on the presidential ballot in 2022 and has what it takes to bring the change Kenyans have been yearning for years.
