Turkana Governor Josphat Nanok has finally declared his support for Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 presidentisl bid, after days of close contact with the DP in his county.
Speaking in Lokichar Saturday, the once fierce critic of the DP and former close ally of opposition leader Raila Odinga said that he will work with the rest of Rift Valley county bosses to ensure Ruto's presidency.
He based his decision on the need for his county to be in government after the 2022 polls, after landing in the opposition in 2013 and 2017 when it rallied behind Raila's presidential bid.
"As 14 governors from Rift Valley, we are working on a plan to fully support the Deputy President and form the next government because the whole country is focusing on Rift Valley to produce the next president. As Turkana people, we want to be part of that government. I will not accept to be outside government again,” he was quoted by the Nation.
This comes after several attempts by the DP to woo the county boss and the region to his side, though no political declaration has been made for the past one year which the DP has made several trips to the region.
Nanok also vowed to emulate Ruto in fundraising for churches, against the will of Raila who has remained opposed to the trend, terming it a twck by politicians to launder graft proceeds.
He added that he will be on Ruto's side in fighting off the constitutional amendment push fronted by Raila and his brigade, which the DP has been against.
“I’ll also continue attending all fundraisers for churches that I will be invited [to] and I urge all leaders to follow suit,” he added.
