On Monday August 20th, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko leaked another phone conversation with a Nairobi tycoon, Mr. Praful Kumar. Mr. Kumar had called Governor Sonko to bribe him into allowing construction of his hotel in Gigiri, which had been stopped by the Nairobi County Government.
However, Governo Sonko declined the offer insisting that money cannot buy his name. He offered to help Mr. Kumar lawfully and insisted that any attempts to bribe him will land him in jail.
In the phone conversation, Governor Sonko referred to one of his (Kumar) friend, who Governor Sonko had helped lawfully and recovered his millions which he had been conned.
However, Mr. Praful Kumar seems to have ignored Governor Sonko’s warning about bribing him. As he was caught by detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) at his home in Kanamai, Kilifi County for trying to bribe Governor Sonko on Monday August 20th evening.
It should be noted that this is not the first time Governor Sonko is leaking his phone calls with other people. Just last week, he leaked a phone call with the Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu over the release of his wife who had been arrested in connection to building on a building in the Nairobi CBD.
