The students have devised various techniques that help them economise the little they have.

Speaking to a Hivisasa writer, a section of Maseno students highlighted the following techniques;

"You will rarely find students at Green Park Hotel (GP) which specifically targets lecturers and top staff officials in the varsity administration. However, if you pay a visit to Mama Farida hotel, you can wait for a minimum of 1 hour to be served since the queue is usually so long," said Enock Barare, a medical student.

"During weekends, a section of students engage in business activities that include; selling of finest Maseno magazines, sweets, and clothes. They do this to make some money that will sustain them for the whole semester," said Abigail Atieno, an Arts student.

"Most students befriend M-Pesa agents since they are the quickest source of soft loans besides online lending Apps,"said Joyline Wanjiku, an Actuarial Science student.

"Some students befriend security officers so as to run businesses in hostels. This way, the officers will spare you when caught in mistakes, and will allow you to run your business in hostel smoothly without interference,"said Duncan Ochieng, an Education student.

"When doing shopping for the whole semester, you only buy the basic needs and avoid the luxurious ones. We are always saving than engaging in surplus buying, "said Daniel Kiptoo, a Public Health student.

"When taking a girl out, I would prefer nature walk in the forest as compared to those dates that I will spend Sh10,000," said lennox Ochieng', an Education student.

"When I go broke, I stick to kales rather than meat, this way, I am able to sustain myself for a semester, "said Kibwana Kibwezi, an Arts student.
