Lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi has opposed proposal to amend the 2010 constitution.
He says that referendum is not necessary, adding that small changes to the constitution can be done by Parliament.
The lawyer argues that it is early to change the basic structure of the 2010 constitution.
He notes that sections of the law can be changed without necessarily conducting a referendum.
“I am opposed to the changing of basic structure of the 2010 constitution and recommend that small issues on some sections to be changed by Parliament,” he said during an interview on Citizen TV's Jeff Koinange Live on Wednesday.
The famous lawyer, however, recommended for proper measures to tame the rising wage bill.
He said that their is a lot of wastage in government.
“Some of the constitutional commissions should be formed on part time basis to save taxpayers money,” he said.
Abdullahi also proposed for reduction of budget to State House and other state agencies that perform duplicate roles.
He said that the issue is not about reducing number of elective seats but rather on the utilisation of public funds.
The debate on a referendum has heated up with Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga saying it is unstoppable.
A section of leaders have backed referendum push while others among them Garissa Township Aden Duale are opposing it.
