Magarini MP Michael Kingi has accused the National Land Commission of not being up to task, thus making land wrangles in the coast region unbearable.
Speaking in Mambrui, Magarini Sub-county, the MP said NLC chairman Mohammed Swazuri had failed in steering the commission to solve land issues at the coast despite having depth knowledge of the historical land woes in the region.
“Swazuri is a son of our soil, he was given the mandate of solving land issues but he has done nothing to the fight against land grabbing in the coast. It’s high time Swazuri to show his patriotism and serve the coast people their right.”
Kingi demanded wealthy individuals who are claimed to have grabbed land in Magarini to comply with the residents’ plea and surrender the parcels to the locals or they be prosecuted.
“It is disturbing and unfair for few wealthy individuals to grab poor people’s land and make the right owners landless without any other alternative,” added Kingi on Thursday.
The legislator said that wealthy individuals, mostly non-residents use shortcuts in Nairobi to fake papers and easily acquire land in the area.
