Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago has directed all County health facilities to dispose of their clinical waste in a modern incinerator installed at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Eldoret town.
This is after the country's second largest referral facility recently installed the modern machine that sterilizes clinical waste.
"Effective from now, all health facilities should dispose their waste at MTRH where a modern incinerating machine has been set up," said Mandago after commissioning a refurbished laboratory and maternity building at the County Hospital, Friday.
"Proper disposal of clinical waste also works to prevent diseases and eventually bringing up a healthy society," he added.
The county boss warned that any health facility including those privately owned which will not comply with the directive will face the consequences.
The County Government of Uasin Gishu in partnership with Old Mutual had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that led to the spending of Sh 10.9 million in facelift of the facility.
