Counties from the drought-stricken North Eastern region have once again topped in the latest corruption index ranking in the counties.
According to a report that was tabled in the Senate by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), Mandera county is leading nationally in the graft index.
At the second position is Anyang' Nyong'o's Kisumu County, Busia and Nyamira topping at position two three and four respectively.
However, Sonko's Nairobi County emerged in position six. Other counties that made to the top ten include Uasin Gishu, Wajir, Marsabit and Turkana.
In a similar report, the EACC listed Kericho and Bomet from South Rift to be among the least expensive in demanding for kickbacks in exchange of government services that would otherwise be offered free of charge.
The report which covers the periods of between 2015 and 2017 further reveals that a common citizen paid an approximate Sh35,440 as a kickback to get services in Mandera County in 2017. In the same county, a citizen would also part with Sh6,972 and Sh80,000 for 2016 and 2015 respectively.
The departments that were listed to be the most notorious include that of health and public works. Incidentally, the trend is almost constant for all the 47 counties.
