It is now a reprieve for commuters plying the various Garissa routes after matatu owners association officially called off their nationwide strike that kicked off on Monday morning.
Garissa Coach, Sabrina, and other bus companies had stopped services following the relentless crackdown by law enforcement officers,
Issuing a statement on Monday afternoon, the Federation of Public Transport Operators (FPT) through their spokesperson Edwin Mukabana assured members of the public that all PSV vehicles that have since complied to the much dreaded 'Michuki rules' shall be in the roads as from Tuesday morning.
“I now request all our people who have since complied to the Michuki rules return their PSV vehicles to the road. We shall bring all issues regarding the rules to the government table for more negotiations," stated Mukabana.
On the better part of Monday, commuters in a number of Garissa matatu stages remained stranded as PSV owners removed their vehicles off the road.
It is now expected that the cancellation of the planned strike by Matatu operators will help remedy the situation.
Even as this happens, Garissa OCPD while addressing the press on Monday maintained that they will not relent in the ongoing crackdown on non-compliant vehicles and their operators.
Bus companies plying the Nairobi-Garissa route like Sabrina and Maslah are expected to resume services.
