Locals said they could't allow the county officers to conduct the meeting at Keumbu meeting hall without Governor James Ongwae presence.

"Ongwae should attend such meetings in person and not sending representatives who are cartels. As Nyaribari Chache constituents we are suffering since the county boss has prioritized working with cartels instead of visiting the area in person to know our views on matters development," said Ken Moenga.

Mr. Moenga said the county officers were luck to have escaped.

"We wanted to beat them up because they are thieves pretending to be good attending public participation forums," he added.

Faith Nyanchera, a trader at Keumbu market said if Ongwae won't visit the area in person, there will be no public participation meeting.

"Let Ongwae come alone to hear our views. We want to tell him our problems face to face and not telling cartels who will end up keeping our views on development to themselves," she noted.

Area police boss Joshua Muthoka urged locals not to be violent when county officers visits the region.

"We don't advocate for locals to shame and humiliate county officers. Locals should raise their grievances in peaceful ways," he noted.
