Three people perished on Tuesday after the boat they had boarded capsized while they were navigating River Kuja in Nyatike Sub County.
The three, two women and a man were among the ten occupants aboard the boat when the tragedy struck at midday.
According to North Kadem Beach Management Unit chair John Wenje, the two fish mongers, Grace Adhiambo and Mary Adhiambo were crossing Kawo beach in Noth Kadem when the boat they had boarded capsized killing the women and the boat rider.
“The boat had ten occupants who were crossing the river from Kabuto headed to Kawo Beach when a strong wind struck the boat causing it to overturn.” Said Wenje.
“We have managed to rescue seven occupants but the rider is still[U1] missing and we suspect he might have been carried far off by the raging waves", he added.
Nyatike OCPD John Mutsili while speaking on phone said that the search for the missing man identified as Wycliffe Otieno is still underway.
“We have reports that three people drowned as they crossed River Kuja at Kawo beach and my officers have joined the locals in search for the missing rider who drowned alongside two fish mongers.” he said.
