Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua is now proposing castration or life sentence for suspects convicted of rape or defilement.
In a statement on his official Facebook Page on Sunday, Mutua noted that no mercy should be shown to rapists and defilers who sexually assault women and girls.
He claimed that rape perpetrators are just a few people who can be dealt with accordingly.
"The reality is that rapists who rape and sodomize our loved ones are not many. It is just a few people repeating these acts of control and abuse.
"I propose that serial rapists be jailed for life without parole. If one is convicted of three acts of rape or raping three different people, then the conviction should be life in jail," he posted.
Meanwhile, to curb cases of muggings and rape in the county, Governor Mutua says his government is spearheading street lighting projects across all the sub-counties and wards to guarantee safety of residents.
"I am pleased that my government has so far erected 751 street lights and 878 Mulika Mwizi’s, more than any other county in Kenya. We are on track to provide an enabling environment for our planned Machakos 24-hour business environment," Dr Mutua added.
