The registration was launched by President Uhuru Kenyatta in Machakos County on Tuesday and seeks to incorporate most of the government-issued documents into a single digitalised unit.

The registration failed to kick off in Kisumu after the registration officials failed to avail themselves at their designated points.

The same was confirmed by Kisumu County Commissioner Pauline Dola who said that lack of crucial documents needed for the exercise is the reason behind the failure of the start.

She expressed confidence that the exercise will take off on Thursday, hoping that the documents will have been availed and enable the officials to begin registering locals, reports the Citizen Digital.

The government is seeking to register all locals in the area in the 45-day exercise.

The system also seeks to enable the government store and manage population data.

Copies of an identification card, driving licence, birth certificate and KRA pin are the documents Kenyans are needed to avail to be registered digitally.
