Political analyst Ambrose Weda has poked holes into former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama's new petition to the court regarding the tenure of deputy presidents in Kenya.
Speaking last week, Muthama said that he will move to court to bar DPs from succeeding their bosses, arguing that they will bring no new ideologies to the government.
However, Weda is now reading politics in the declaration, predicting its rejection by the court arguing that only presidents are barred from seeking a third term, a constitutional dictate that doesn't touch on their deputies.
He added that the move is just another attempt by forces opposed to Ruto's presidency noting that it will not succeed and should be shelved to prevent the wastage of time and resources.
"This is nonsense. The constitution only speaks about the president and there is only one president who is not Ruto. Muthama should not waste our time and if he doesn't want Ruto, let him defeat him in the elections," said Weda.
The High Court advocate was speaking on KBC English Service's The Big Conversation show, where he claimed that Muthama is also reviving the debate to remain politically relevant after years in the cold.
He said that Muthama has been locked out of the political platforms he initially used to popularise himself through and is now out to get a new platform to do the same.
"Muthama wants to be heard. He made the wrong decision by refusing to run for Machakos Senator in 2017 and used to attack the president and the deputy daily but now lacks the platform," said Weda.
The former Sony Sugar Board Chair is also a member of the task force investigating Supreme Court judge Jackton Ojwang'.
However, in his announcement, Muthama said that he is not aiming at the DP, and is ready to have his lawyers make an exception for him and begin implementing the push in 2022.
