Mrs Lydia Apunga, Assa Nyakundi's wife and their son Noah Onsomu, are now persons of interest in the case where city lawyer Nyakundi is believed to have murdered his son Joseph Nyakundi.
Already, DCI George Kinoti and DPP Noordin Haji have been granted permission to drop the manslaughter charges against Nyakundi and charge him afresh over the murder.
Mr Kinoti believes that the two conspired with two detectives who were investigating the case to have the murder charges reduced to manslaughter. Already, the two officers have been interdicted.
“It is true that the two will be interrogated as persons of interest in our inquiry into the cover-up,” Mr George Kinoti, the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) told the Nation.
Already, DCI George Kinoti has dropped Mrs Apunga and Mr Onsomu as Prosecution witnesses, accusing them of plotting with police officers to save Mr Nyakundi.
“We shall be interrogating them on what they know about this massive cover-up, and if we find that they had a hand in it, they will also be charged with conspiracy to defeat justice. Take it from me.”
Postmortem report contradicts lawyer Assa Nyakundi's accounts. Mr Nyakundi had claimed that he shot his son accidentally while the report shows that the two may have struggled.
Yet again, the report also shows that Joseph was shot from outside the vehicle, contrary to Nyakundi's claims that the two were in the vehicle during the purported accident.
