The DP says it is time parents and students looks at TTIs as centres of excellence that produce competent graduates.

Speaking at Ainabkoi constituency, Uasin Gishu county on Saturday during the official opening of Kipkabus Technical Training Institute, Ruto said TTIs build the capacity of the youth to acquire a technical skill set to lead our development priorities.

"For a very long time, we have had a wrong notion about technical training but we need to appreciate that these are the skills that fuel small and big economies," he said.

Ruto also noted that technical skills will be key for driving the Jubilee administration agenda on manufacturing and housing.

"We are putting emphasis on manufacturing which will need a lot of technicians to work on the machines in factories," he insisted while pointing out that the government had rolled up an initiative that will see students joining technical institutions get financial support.

"The learners will get a Sh40,000 loan and Sh30,000 bursary upon admission," said the DP.

Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago who was also present during the event said that his administration has been going around the county to sensitize youth on the need to join technical institutes in order to change their lives.

"Technical skills is what the government is putting emphasis even as it moves to fuel the manufacturing agenda in the big four pillars," said Mandago.

Principal Secretary State Department of Vocational Training Institutes Kevit Desai said over Sh300million worth of equipment have been installed at the institution that already has 410 students.
