On Thursday evening, Uhuru returned the bill to parliament even after going silent for four days.

Speaker Justin Muturi, in a special Gazette notice, summoned MPs for a sitting, Tuesday next week following the order of the president to explain the reason behind rejecting of the amended bill.

MPs can now either side with Uhuru or vote with two-thirds majority to compel the president to sign it into law.

The bill proposed to scrap 16 per cent VAT on petroleum products which has led to escalating fuel prices.
