With the great advancements in the technological world, institutions of higher education have not been left behind.
They should be at per with the developments to keep their student abreast with current trends.
One of the key indicators that may reveal an institution has embraced technology is social media interaction. University administrations across the world have embraced social media platforms to issue formal communications to their students, staff and even the general public.
However, the situation at Garissa University is seemingly way down below the expectations of a higher learning institution.
A close look at the institution's Twitter handle indicates the last activity was done over a year ago, specifically on April 10 2018, where the Vice-Chancellor, Ahmed Osman Warfa, was assuring parents of enhanced security at the institution after the deadly 2015 Al-Shabaab attack.
While other institutions embrace 24 hours of social media interaction, with an almost immediate reply and conclusive responses, Garissa University is holed up in slumber not knowing the next moment of action.
With this in mind, the university management should borrow a leaf from other world-class institutions like Kenyatta University, University of Nairobi among others which have shown competence in social media interaction which is in line with technological advancement.
