In a tweet on Monday, the lawyer said that Sang has agreed to present himself to the office of the Director of Criminal Investigation (DCI) to record a statement after destroying at least 2500 mature tea bushes at the Kibwari tea estate in Nandi hills.

Havi asked the police to rethink about his arrest since he had promised to cooperate following the incident that has continued to elicit mixed reactions from different quarters.

“Total waste of public funds and time. Had he not said he would present himself before the DCI?” he tweeted on Monday.

The county boss was arrested moments after he presented himself to the DCI in Nandi County after it emerged that he was being sought by the police.

A crowd accompanied the governor to the Kapsabet police station force security officers to lobby teargas to disperse them with immediate effect.

Sang had been interrogated for 45 minutes before chaos ensued at the station compelling police to take action to restore order at the place.

The county boss insisted that the property belongs to the public and the owner of the plantation needs to be arraigned in court.
