A section of county residents have condemned the of education of 'scaring'  candidates in the ongoing Kenya Certificate for Primary Education (KCPE) through tough security deployment.

Photos of a police officer armed with his rifle in a classroom led to the condemnation with residents terming the move as 'irresponsible'.

"I don't support malpractices but this is too much. How will even s child who has never seen a gun behave in such circumstances? This is not right," argued Ben Nyaribo.

Another local, Janet Kemunto added: "Going to exam rooms with machine guns is irresponsible. Examinations should not be militarised."

Last week, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i said his ministry had deployed close to 70,000 security personnel to all schools countrywide.

He also insisted that the move is meant to deal with threats which may arise in examination centres across the country.

"We have not militarised exams. This is just a precaution to deal with rogue traders who may be leaking exams," he said.
