If there is one region that has proved to be unpredictable when it comes to elections, it is the volatile North Eastern region.
In 2007, it voted as a block in favor of the opposition leader Raila Odinga before it's tide changed in 2013 when both Raila and Uhuru Kenyatta almost shared the votes half-half.
However, in 2017 most votes went to Uhuru's side, Raila bagged just a handful.
Interestingly, during the presidential repeat election on October 26th, 2017 when Raila boycotted the exercise, only about less than half of the votes Uhuru received on August 8th in the region were cast in his favor. That is the North Eastern region.
But what should be kept in mind is the fact that Jubilee which Uhuru leads scooped more of the elective seats than Raila's ODM or NASA, the coalition he leads. This puts the opposition chief at cross-roads.
He will be going into the 2022's general election well knowing that no county in the region is headed by an opposition governor.
All governors in North Eastern were elected on Jubilee Party tickets, Mohamed Abdi Mahamud (Wajir), Ali Roba (Mandera), Mohamud Mohamed Ali (Marsabit) and Ali Bunow Korane (Garissa).
The four will be teaming up with other like-minded politicians including the Majority Leader in parliament Aden Duale to campaign for Ruto.
The DP, majority Kenyans know, has the capacity to stage well-oiled campaigns which may actually deny the opposition votes.
There will be no surprise if Jubilee clinches all the gubernatorial seats in 2022 in North Eastern again.
