The Kisumu County leadership has reiterated its commitment towards enhancing transport and mobility in the county through improvement of the road network.

Consequently, the Governor Anyang' Nyong'o led government is rolling out a Ksh600 million for the maintenance and construction of new roads within the county.

According to the Governor, the process is expected to begin soon and will see about 350 kilometres of road positively affected by the program.

“We are finalising the county policy on roads maintenance teams and beginning its implementation while continuing with road construction projects,” he was quoted by the Friday Nation.

The project will cover all the 7 Kisumu sub-counties of Nyakatch, Kisumu Central, Kisumu West, Kisumu East, Muuhoroni, Nyando and Seme.

The Governor added that his government is planning to acquire road machinery in the next financial year to enable it personally take care of road maintenance.

This way, he noted, the youth within the county will be able to earn a living from working at the sites and as machine operators.

He added that it will spare the county wrangles with contractors who fail to do their job and do a shoddy work after receiving payment.

“This will ensure reversal of a trend of contractors walking away with millions for projects that crumble as soon as they leave the site," he added.
