Victor Macharia and Marcus Mugendi have been arraigned in court over a 2018 FIFA World Cup after their bet on Spain vs Russia match went awry.

The two were arrested on July 2, 2018, at 10 pm, after they caused drama in a social place where they were watching the match. 

The game ended 3-4 on penalties in favour of Russia after they drew 1-1 draw in normal time. 

Macharia and Mugendi were frustrated at the results and started using abusive language in public. 

The two told Embu Resident Magistrate Jean Ndegei that they drunk to fade off bad memories of losing a crucial bet.

They were to be sentenced to jail for a period of one month but they pleaded for leniency and promised not to repeat the same crime.

Kenyans have been placing bets in the ongoing Russia World Cup matches, with many complaining of lost bets. 

The tournament enters the quarterfinals on Friday, with Brazil taking on Belgium in the highlight fixture of the quarters.
