They claimed that Muthama had made abusive comments during one of the CORD's rallies in the county.

Led by the regional assembly convener Rhoda Maende, the more than 200 women demanded that Muthama withdraws his statement and offer an apology.

Muthama allegedly during a campaign for Kethiwa Kilonzo, made mean remarks on a senior female politician accusing her of lacking manners and showing her inners in front of men.

Maende claimed Muthama had said, "Vaa be Syonthita utesi uku a ngua atukila. Okilaa kitimba ki nza mbee was aume." Loosely translated as [there's a woman here Syonthita, who doesn't know how to straighten her dress when she stands up. She wakes up with her buttocks exposed in front of men].

She said the character Muthama referred to as 'syonthita' was one of the senior politicians from the region who had been leading an onslaught against Wiper party.

Maende said the character was then viewed as a threat to Wiper's chances of reclaiming the Makueni Senatorial seat that had been left vacant after Mutula Kalonzo's death.

She warned that they would conduct countrywide demonstrations as women if Muthama was to continue with the abusive language during the by-election campaigns.

"We will mobilize all civil rights organizations and stage countrywide protests if the Machakos senator will continue to use his abusive language in the by-election campaigns," Maende said.
