Some 2,063 medical practitioners and 212 dental practitioners have been de-registered by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Board.
The medics will not be allowed to practice anywhere in the country because of misconduct.
The doctors, who are from both the public and private health sector, found themselves in trouble after they failed to comply with rules and regulations of the profession.
The board has since declared that the medics will not be given licenses that allow them to be hired. The medics are required to pay an annual retention fee of Sh4,000 to practice.
The removal of non-complainant doctors was undertaken in reference to Section 14 of the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Act.
The public can now access names of all doctors who have been de-registered on the board’s official site. The de-registered doctors include those with scandals such as Mugo Wa Wairimu.
The government has since declared war on fake doctors as it seeks to provide Kenyans with quality health services.
Over the years, cases of fake doctors have been reported in the country with some killing patients in the process of treating them.
The board’s act states that: “Every such licence shall be for such period and may contain such conditions as the Director of Medical Services shall, with the consent or on the instruction of the Board, impose.”
